is under a misapprehension, due no doubt to representations
which have been made to him by or on behalf of the Bank.
The Bank is in an eminently prosperous condition and is well
able to look after its own interests without asking for the
special support of the Government. The present representa- tions have evidently been made with the vior of cpturing, in the interest of the Bank, the whole of the Government
business in remittances, and I would recall attention to the fact that a somewhat similar attempt was made on t & part of
the Bank some years since to capture the business in connec- tion with the supply of silver for the local currency, on which subject the correspondence noted in the margin has
passed.
